Gypsies:

Gypsies and Travellers can trace their history back to the 5th Century. Many believe their origins are from tribes in Northern India.
Some of our families have been established in Dorset for over 500 years. Gypsies and Irish Travellers are protected by Race Discrimination legislation and the "Human Rights Act" - as are all citizens within the EU.

Travellers:

There have always been Travellers who aren't Gypsies -often for work or because of difficult circumstances. The first recorded non-Gypsy travellers in England were caravan dwellers in the1790's. Nowadays many of the non-Gypsy travelling people have come from various backgrounds and have chosen this lifestyle, although some are 5th generation travellers. Travellers are only protected by the "Human Rights Act".
